Yesterday we were back at Dr. Carr’s office to have Kaitie’s stitches checked. They had dissolved and the incisions were tiny. All things considered, they look good. The bad news from that visit is “three more weeks” until she is off crutches and can bear weight on her leg. So we added a countdown timer to the right side of this page to track when she will be “OFF” crutches.
Kaitie has been doing physical therapy since the day after her surgery. We pick her up from school and take her to Dartmouth twice a week. She’s progressing well. She has full functional range of motion but at the rate she is regaining it, she may be back to complete range of motion by the time she is walking, three weeks. Even with the exercises, she is quickly loosing muscle mass. Not being able to walk on it and being in the brace full time is just too much inactivity for the exercises to overcome.
Kaitie’s physical therapist, Steve Vincente, assures us that if she sticks to the exercise regimen and works hard, when she can bear weight that she will quickly regain what’s she has lost.
